The city government, is set to clamp vehicles that are illegally parked in no-parking areas in the city.

Assistant City Administrator Cesar Raz said Tuesday the move was patterned after other cities in the country as part of the campaign against illegal parking.

Raz said initially the city government would purchase 100 clamps to be used in the campaign and violators would be fined PHP500 for an offense.

The city government has recently declared all streets downtown as no-parking zones to address the problem of traffic congestion.

Raz said clamping illegally parked vehicles would augment the towing campaign, which the city government has implemented since last month.

The city government has acquired two trucks to tow illegally parked vehicles, which was implemented in line with the order of President Rodrigo Duterte on road clearing operations.

The towing charges implemented by the city government are as follows: light vehicles with engine displacement of 0 to 1600cc,

PHP800 towing charge plus PHP50 storage fee per day; medium vehicles with engine displacement 1600cc to 2800cc, PHP1,000 towing charge and additional PHP75 storage fee per day; and heavy vehicles with engine displacement of 2801 cc and above, PHP1,200 towing charge plus PHP100 storage fee daily.

Meanwhile, Raz disclosed that two private towing service firms have applied for accreditation from the city government.

He said accreditation of two firms would boost the campaign of the city government against illegal parking in this city. (PNA)
