Almost 3,000 families or 10,000 individuals were displaced in this province by the onslaught of Typhoon Rolly on Sunday.

Amado Elson A. Egargue, chief of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said in an interview on Monday that the affected families are those living in high-risk areas and preemptively evacuated to safer grounds during the height of the typhoon.

The town of Dingalan has the most number of transferred residents, with 1,739 families or 5,908 individuals brought to 10 evacuation centers.

It was followed by Dipaculao town where 426 families or 1,318 individuals voluntarily left their houses and proceeded to the designated evacuation centers.

A total of 238 families or 857 individuals from Dinalungan town stayed temporarily in six evacuation centers.

San Luis town has 147 families or 535 individuals displaced and brought to various temporary shelters.

On the other hand, there were 126 families or 566 individuals displaced in Maria Aurora and 83 families or 268 individuals in Casiguran.

Likewise, a total of 57 families or 184 individuals were evacuated in this capital town.

Dilasag town has the least number of evacuees with 34 families or 111 individuals.

Egargue said the local governments were very active in implementing the measures to ensure the safety of the people.

“Our local officials did pre-emptive and forced evacuations to attain zero casualties in this province. We did this to ensure the safety of everyone especially those in the coastal barangays, low lying areas, along the rivers and landslide-prone areas,” he said.

He also said that the prepositioning of personnel, rescue vehicles, and equipment, as well as of food packs and medicines in areas at risk of flooding, landslides, and storm surges was conducted.

Egargue said health protocols against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) are integrated into PDRRMC’s responses.

He added that the gathering of data on the effect and extent of damage by the typhoon in the province is ongoing. (PNA)
